The number of companies selling digital textbooks is on the rise and each claims to have the best variety of titles. Mashable did some research and came up with 1,000 of the most popular textbook titles then put the companies to the test. Who came out on top?
CourseSmart: 82%
Amazon Kindle: 58.3%
Barnes and Noble: 46.6%
Kno:46.6%
So we thought we'd do some of our own research to figure out who had the best prices. We searched for Psychology (9th Ed) by David Meyers on all 4 sites. Here's what we came up with:
CourseSmart: $62.95 for 6 month rental
Amazon Kindle: Unavailable as an eBook but used copies were selling as cheap as $60.00
Barnes and Noble: $62.99 for 6 month rental
Kno: $62.99 for a 6 month rental
Conclusion:
Prices seem to be about the same across companies, but we should note that it took us some time to find even a common textbook like Black's Law Dictionary or the Norton Anthology of English Literature on Kno. However, Kno is also a small start-up so their selection is probably still growing.
Have you had any experience with any of these companies? Let us know how it went in the comments!
