At this point most of you freshmen have made it through your first week of college! College has been on your mind since your first day of senior year (if not earlier). You’re finally on your own and “living your best life.” Once you get settled into a new routine, here are some tips to make the most of your freshman year.
Ask For Help
College can feel like a whole new world no matter where you go. Never be afraid to ask for help when you’re struggling with anything. You will not be judged if you walk around using the map on your phone to find your class. Honestly this is smart and we are all guilty of doing this at some point. If you’re feeling lost in a different sense there are so many resources college campuses offer. Take advantage of them! These resources are on campus to help you. Always remember you’re never alone.
Keep Your Day Ones Close
Freshman year is full of new faces and friendships. Having new people in your life is great, but never forget the friends and family you grew up with. The technology we have today is a game changer because no matter where your friends are they’re only a FaceTime or text away. Yes, this includes your parents too.
Get Involved
You’ve probably heard this one over and over. It really is important to get involved with groups or clubs that interest you. Make sure you’re not overwhelming yourself though! The good thing about a lot of organizations in college is that you can normally put in as much or as little as you want. This makes it easier to work these groups into your schedule. Joining organizations that interest you is a great way to meet new people with similar interests.
Take Time For Yourself
Freshman year is exciting and there is always so much going on. It’s important to take time to step back and focus on yourself. Take time to watch your favorite TV show, wander around your favorite store, or scope out a new coffee shop. Having time to yourself keeps you grounded and from getting too overwhelmed.
Try to Focus on School
I know, I know, I sound like your parent right now. Your first year of college is spent taking mostly general classes which is a great way to get your GPA up right away. The higher your GPA is from the get go, the better off you’ll be in the long run. Take the extra ten minutes to do that assignment or spend the night studying instead of a social event. Your junior year self will be thanking your freshman self.
Most importantly make sure you have fun and don’t spend too much time stressing about the small things. Freshman year is meant for new experiences, new friends, and new memories. Get ready for the best four years of your life!
