If you are living in or visiting  Boston, you have probably heard of Newbury Street. If you are not familiar with it, it’s a long street with tons of brand name stores and fancy restaurants. It attracts many tourists as well as Bostonians who like luxury brands. I just browse when I go since many of the items in the stores are out of my budget. It’s still the first place I think of when I want to shop in Boston. However, besides Newbury Street, there are many great shopping areas in the city. Today, I’m gonna help you with a list of places to shop at in Boston that are not Newbury Street.

Downtown Crossing

Downtown Crossing is only a fifteen minute walk or a quick t-ride from Newbury Street; however, the affordability will have you coming back for more. If you take the orange or red line and hop off at the Downtown Crossing stop, you will be at the heart of it. Some of the stores include: Macys, Old Navy, Gap Factory Outlet, DSW, Marshalls, Homegoods, TJ Maxx, and more. You will feel no guilt while shopping at these stores because you can find so many sales and deals--something that you are likely not to find on Newbury. I highly recommend checking out Downtown Crossing at the end of a season, when the stores need to make room for new inventory and are trying to get rid of the previous season’s merchandise by selling them at discounted prices.

Primark

Although Primark is one of the stores located in Downtown Crossing, I felt that it deserved its own category since it felt like a mini mall. Primark is based in Europe, but opened its first location in the United States in Boston in 2015. It’s easy to lose track of time here as you explore all four floors! It has departments dedicated to women’s clothing, men’s clothing, shoes, home goods, makeup, and more. When you enter, make sure to grab a carriage because you will need one. Everything here is so cheap- it’s prices can be compared to those at Forever 21 and H&M. Be aware that since the prices are cheaper than other stores, sometimes the quality of the clothing might not be as good at times. There have been times when a piece of clothing I bought broke or shrunk, but  I generally have a lot of good luck shopping here. I recommend Primark for the times you are in search of a staple piece or a new outfit that won’t break the bank.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace

There are many stores and shops located around Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall. The stores and shops are located minutes from the Government Center or Haymarket T-stop. Many tourists come here to learn about the history, but also shop at the stores here. There are a variety of stores and restaurants you can choose from- depending on if you’re on a budget or if you want to splurge a bit. Some of the stores include American Eagle Outfitters, Gap, Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Victoria Secret, Uniqlo, and more. If you are looking for Boston souvenirs, you can find kiosks all around dedicated to merchandise with “Boston" on it. In summer, the atmosphere feels different from other times of the year--families spending time together and enjoying the weather, performers showing off their talents, and the smell of good food!

Cambridgeside Galleria

Although this is not in Boston, it’s right outside Boston--in Cambridge! If you get off the Lechmere T stop on the green line, it’s less than a five minute walk. There are many affordable options at this mall and something catches my eye every time I go. There have been times where I have not made it through the whole mall in a day as it is three floors high! There’s also a beautiful fountain right out front that is very serene and quiet.

I hope that this list helps you find alternate places to shop! I recommend taking the T to these places as parking options are very scarce and difficult to find- unless you go to Cambridgeside Galleria where there is a parking garage you can pay for.
