I am a firm believer that people can change, and I personally believe that it’s important to give people second chances.
Of course, everything depends on the situation. If it’s an argument that you had with a friend who said something that hurt your feelings, I think that is a situation where someone can truly learn from their mistakes. On the other hand, if it’s a situation where you accidentally totalled your best friend’s car and she loses complete trust in you, I think second chances should be given as long as you’ve learned from your mistake and helped pay for the cost of a new car.
I strongly believe that when you surround yourself with the right people- people who motivate you to be a better person- then you can change. Therefore, it’s important to give people second chances. When people learn from their mistakes and surround themselves with people who can help them grow, I think it’s important to hear them out and give them a second chance.
If someone you know has been trying to become a better person by learning from their mistakes, why shouldn’t they get a second chance? You are who you hang out with, so if you’re hanging out with people with goals, and ambitions- people who are trying to be better people- of course, you’re going to pick up on that. If you and a friend had an argument that made you stop talking to each other for a few years and then she messages you to catch up, I think it’s important to hear her out. People can change if they’re surrounded with the right people. If your friend is constantly learning from her mistakes, apologizing for her wrongdoings, and surrounding herself with good company, then she deserves a second chance.
People make mistakes all the time. I don’t mean that you should forgive people all the time; it depends on the situation. However, if it’s an argument that can easily be fixed by talking it out, then why shouldn’t the person deserve a second chance? We’re all human and we make mistakes. The only way that we can stop making mistakes is by learning from them. If someone you know is trying their hardest to be a better individual, then they definitely deserve a second chance.
Giving people a second chance doesn’t make you stupid or dumb. It makes you stronger because you’re allowing yourself to accept the fact that people can change. You’re allowing yourself to understand that not everyone acts the same way that they acted five years ago. You’re allowing yourself to understand that we all grow up and learn from our mistakes. Giving people a second chance shows that you’ve grown up as well. It proves that you understand that disagreements sometimes do happen, but as long as you’re learning, then you deserve a second chance.
Is there anyone in your life that you haven’t spoken to after an argument? Do you think they deserve a second chance?
