We are quickly approaching the winter season which means sales, sales, and more sales. Although you think you’re saving money because it was a great buy, did you really? Here’s how to shop smarter.

1. Make a list of needs vs. wants

95% of the purchases we make aren’t really necessities. Okay, that’s probably not the exact statistic (I know I read the right one somewhere), but it’s pretty close. Do you really want to save money? Cut out that Starbucks coffee you “need" everyday. Opt for a home brew, or even a coffee company that gives back, such as Three Avocados.

2. Just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean it’s a good buy

I remember learning this when I was younger, and I thought that shopping can be hard. Well, it’s true. Even if it’s 80% off, you don’t have to buy it!

3. Shop online

Not only are you avoiding those crazy crowds, but sometimes a site will give a discount if you shop online. Here’s a bonus- if you really love the company, sign up for their email list. They offer discounts galore!

4. Take your time

I have a cousin who always has THE BEST stuff, and I used to think that she went shopping all the time. However, while she goes shopping, it takes her a really long time to pick something out(in fact, her sisters hate shopping with her). She studies the fabrics for any rips, especially if it’s on sale. We tend to buy items in a hurry and regret it later.

5. Do your research

When bloggers, celebrities, or even brands post something they recommend, I really take it to heart. I also I love reading reviews! I like to see how the product will benefit me in my daily life before I bite the bullet and get it.
