In D.C., The Office of the State of Education in D.C. (the OSSE) declares which programs are adequate for training teachers in K-12 and Special Education and provides a very curated list of approved programs. In order to obtain state teacher certification in D.C. you must attend a state-approved program, so it is important to select a school from this list that is right for you. In order to save you from government jargon and unnecessarily confusing pdfs, however, we will give you the run-down here.
All of these programs listed have either been accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teachers Education (NCATE) which is now known as the Council for the Accreditation for Education (CAEP). They offer graduate programs and/or some form of licensure for specific subjects.
This list was last updated April 2017.
