When you are little, you look up to the older kids and you cannot wait to be like them. You think that when you reach a certain age you will be free to do what you want and be who you want. Although nothing magically changes when you finally reach that college age, a lot does start evolving for you to become the person you have always wanted to be. Your college years are the perfect years for you to start expressing yourself and getting to know yourself better. You will face certain situations that help you grow and gain self-confidence.

New Experiences

The sole act of starting college is a new experience on its own. However, throughout your college career you will constantly face new experiences and new challenges. These will not only affect your learning process but also your emotions. Experiencing new things will make you feel different, and that will always help you understand yourself better. Through these new experiences, you will be able to express yourself, your emotions, your likes, and your dislikes. And these new experiences will lead to:

New Opportunities

You will have the possibility to grow your professional career. Internships will come up for you to gain more work experience and be able to build a stronger resume. Through these opportunities, you will learn the kind of work you like to do and the kind of work you wish you could do in the future. They will help you get a better understanding of who you are and who you want to be —both in your professional and personal life. Plus, these opportunities will allow you to meet:

New People

In college, you will come across all kinds of people. You will meet those who challenge you and motivate you to be better. Those who help you grow and mature; the ones who share the same interests as you and are willing to work towards the same goals. But you will also meet people who are nothing like you and who actually work against you. Those kind of people are the hardest to work with but they will teach you a lot about your patience, your strengths, your weaknesses, and the way you interact with others. Meeting new people always teaches us something about ourselves and it always presents an opportunity to make

New Decisions

These new experiences, opportunities, and people will make you face new decisions. You will have to understand the kind of beliefs, morals, and values you stand by in order to make the right decisions. You will probably be tempted by many things throughout your college years but you should always do what feels right for you. During this time, you could feel peer pressured but you need to remain loyal to yourself. Those decisions you make will help define who you are.

The truth is we have our entire lives to shape ourselves and become the person we truly want to be in the end. Our college years are the ones when we start becoming ourselves. We learn more in depth about who we are, what we believe in, what we value, and what we want others to know about us. What others think about us can feel very important but you will learn that you are the only one who can judge you. You have to go through different experiences to know what truly matters to you. You need to take advantage of new opportunities to know what you really want to do in life. You have to meet new people to create a support system that will always have your back. You have to make decisions that will help lead you to your dream life. You have your entire life to become your true-self but you should definitely make sure your college years are a good starting point.
