The 2000s were a golden age for many successful films. Unfortunately, with DVDs and DVD players becoming less popular, it’s difficult to find films from this era all that frequently. However, streaming services such as Netflix have recently brought in an influx of many 2000s films to bring back some nostalgia from the olden days and the prime days of many A-list actors. Whether you are going to watch on a hot day, late at night, or with some friends, here are some 2000s films to check out on Netflix this summer.

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)

Though the second film of the trilogy is currently the only one available on Netflix, it still provides great memories from two comedy character icons of the 2000s: Harold Lee and Kumar Patel. This hilarious film features a superlong adventure as Harold and Kumar break out of their hostage situation in Guantanamo Bay and try to clear their names from any wrongdoings. The film features actor Neil Patrick Harris, who has had recurring appearances in the trilogy.

Just Friends (2005)

A funny rom-com featuring Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart, this light-hearted film is centered around two adults, Chris Brander and Jamie Palamino. They were best friends in high school, yet Brander kept wanting more. After losing touch over many years, a surprising twist of events leads to Brander spending some time in his hometown after his flight to another destination gets delayed. There, the main protagonist rekindles his relationship with Palamino and once again hopes to take the relationship to the next level.

Wedding Crashers (2005)

In one of the best films of the decade, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn star as eligible bachelors John Beckwith and Jeremy Gray, who make a hobby of attending random weddings and trying to meet women. However, their biggest conquest is attending the wedding of a rich family. They sneak their way into the long list of festivities to pull off their biggest crash yet. However, things get complicated when Gray becomes involved with one of the daughters of the family, and Beckwith starts to feel something real for another daughter who happens to be engaged. Be prepared to become emotionally invested in the life-changing romances of these two traditionally non-committal characters.

Employee of the Month (2006)

Starring Dane Cook as Zack Bradley, Jessica Simpson as Amy Renfro, and Dax Shepard as Vince Downey, this film has a competitive edge as it depicts the lives of workers at a large department store. Capturing Renfro’s heart being his main goal, and winning a car being his secondary goal, Bradley steps up to the challenge of winning Employee of the Month, which can only be done by beating the consistently-winning Downey. The desire to win the plaque leads to hilarious repercussions and an all-out battle for the crown, so get ready to laugh so much that you are in tears.

Are We There Yet? (2005)

Ice Cube stars as Nick Persons in this two-part film series, and Persons is tasked with dropping off the kids of his love interest to prove his worth as a potential partner. To prove his loyalty and dedication to her, Persons deals with obstacles throughout the trip, such as having to drop the children off via car after the children miss their flight. It takes all of Persons’ patience to deal with the children, as both parties are not very fond of each other. However, the journey’s twists and turns lead to both parties learning to cooperate with each other and possibly view each other in a different light. The sequel to the film, Are We Done Yet? was released in 2007.

The growing list of 2000s films on Netflix is an encouraging sign for movie lovers of that generation. Other films to check out include Daddy Day Care, The Jane Austen Book Club, Mamma Mia!, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and P.S. I Love You. Sometimes, the best movies to watch are the ones that were prominent during a specific time of your life.
