We all use our phones almost all of the time… except maybe when we are sleeping. Students tend to use their phones more often because our entire lives are stored on that little device. It’s where we can connect with our friends through phone calls, FaceTime, SnapChat, and text. It’s where we connect with the rest of the world through social media, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Tumblr. Nine times out of ten, that’s how we find out what’s going on around the world. We use it to wake ourselves up and to find out what the temperature is. I think it’s pretty obvious that our phones are constantly being used for a variety of reasons.
Apps are not only a great way to keep up with our Instagram feeds, but they are also a great way to help us keep track of school. This year I discovered a few great apps that I have found really helpful when it comes to organization, school, and money management. Although I do swear by the old fashioned concrete planner, I also like to use my phone to keep track of everything because I carry it with me everywhere I go.
The first app I love is already installed on your phone, and that’s the Calendar app . This app is great because you can keep track of all your important school deadlines and appointments. You can separate everything into different categories. I like to separate mine into school, appointments, meetings, and miscellaneous. The app can also be set up to notify you when you’re approaching an important date.
The second app that I love goes hand in hand with the Calendar app, and it is also already installed on your phone. It’s the Reminders app . It’s just another place where you can remind yourself about important dates. I also use it to remind me to work out and drink water, since I’m always forgetting to do those things.
There are also a few great apps that aren’t already installed on your phone. The first one is my most recent discovery, and I’m super excited to put it to use this upcoming semester. It’s called ‘Grade Hound’ and you can download it for free in the app store. You can add every class that you’re taking. When you add the class, you can also add the time of the class, the location, and how the class is graded. There is also a place where you can add all of your upcoming assignments for each class and you can set reminders about when they are due. You’re also able to keep track of your grade in the class by adding of all the grades you receive on different assignments. It’s a great way to organize all of your assignments and classes while keeping track of where you stand in each course.
Money management when you’re in school, especially in college, is crucial. ‘Mint’ is a great app that you can link to your debit and credit card accounts. You can use this app to create a budget for yourself and set limits for how much you spend. It’ll also track how much you spend in different categories, including food, entertainment, clothing, and more. If you also pay bills, there’s a section where you can add all the bills you need to pay and you can even set some reminders to pay those bills. This app is great for money management beginners, like myself.
There are so many different apps out there, but those are a few of my personal favorites that I think can be super beneficial to students. It’s crucial for students to stay organized because it makes our lives ten times easier and more efficient.
