Webb Institute is a miniscule, insanely intense four-year undergraduate school that is highly, highly specialized. Basically, if you want to major in naval architecture and marine engineering, come here. If you don't, stay away.

Students at Webb's campus in Glen Cove, NY next to the Long Island Sound spend their days learning how to design ships of all sizes. Perks include a private beach and a senior thesis where you can draw up your very own plans for a boat. Also, internships are ubiquitous. First-year students toil in shipyards; sophomores take a tour on the high seas as engine cadets; juniors and seniors intern as designers of various boats. Webb's job placement rate is nearly 100 percent and the jobs pay pretty well, which must be a nice feeling for students, especially these days. Grads also pursue doctoral degrees on a frequent basis.

Every student at Webb receives a full-tuition scholarship. However, you'll still have to pay for room and board, books, a laptop, and some sophisticated software. The tab for these costs comes to about $18,000 per year.
