While you’re in college, you should take advantage of all the opportunities that your school has to offer, whether you are an undergraduate student or a graduate student. It’s important to experience college and not just take classes and have each day pass by. Use your college experience as an opportunity to get involved and grow.
Use your college experience as a way to make a lasting impact on your campus. A great way to do this is to get involved with parades, fairs, walks, and other events. During my first semester of college, I joined the LGBT club and I participated in their semi-annual walk. This walk raised awareness about the LGBT community and it showed the school that LGBT students exist and deserve equal rights. When I participated in the walk, there were a few LGBT students that thanked me for participating and they mentioned that it meant a lot to them. Participating in these types of events is a good way to make a lasting impact on your campus while representing a great cause. While you may not think that you are making a difference, others around you will see that you care and it will mean a lot to them. If there is a women’s walk going on at your school, participate in it. It shows that you want women to have equal rights and that you support women. Little things like that will have a lasting impact on your campus.
Another way to make a lasting impact is to speak up about certain situations that are going on. If you see someone getting bullied, please say something or alert your campus police, your RA, or another person who is in charge. Stopping someone from bullying others will show that bullying is not tolerated. Speaking up about these types of issues will show that you care about what is going on in the world and that you want to make a change. Nowadays, people are scared and couldn’t care less about speaking up. When you speak up, you influence others to do the same. You also become a voice for the victims who are constantly targeted.
Another way to make a lasting impact on campus is to be a mentor for the freshmen, and this is one thing that I regret not doing. You can be a mentor by guiding these new students through their first year of college, and you can show them how to make the most out of their college experience. You can also be a mentor by answering any questions that they may have and you can provide them with a safe place to go to whenever they need help. By being a mentor, you’re letting these students know that they are not alone and that they can come to you for anything. This is a great way to become a role model.
My next piece of advice is to build relationships with your professors. By that, I mean that you should always ask for help and advice about school and your future career.
When your professors see that you are trying your best to pass and that you are doing everything you can, they start to realize that you’re a motivated student. Professors are great resources, so you should get to know them and let them get to know you. By being the best student that you can be and by asking for help, your professors will start to remember you and they will see that you are trying.
Finally, if you’re passionate about something, then start a club. Chances are, there are other students who share the same passion. If you don’t see a club that you like, make one! Ask for permission and then market it so that other students can join. There’s always someone else with the same passion, so you can potentially make new friends. By creating a new club, you’ll be making a lasting impact on the school and you are letting future students know that there’s a club for them.
These are some tips that I recommend in order to make a lasting impact on your school. Don’t just take classes and go back to your dorm every single day. You should really experience college and see what it has to offer. What are some things that you recommend in order to make a lasting impact on your college?
