It is a given fact that every girl needs a night out with their best friends. This designated time is allotted to women who need to unwind from a stressful work week, or simply let loose and catch up with one another. However, a cozy night in with friends, movies, and take-out food is just as fun as going out. I am a major homebody, and I’m definitely an introvert. When I have the opportunity to plan a get-together with friends, I have no problem offering to host a cozy movie night. If you ever have no idea what to watch with your best friend, here are five great movies, ranging from popular classics to recent comedies:

Mystic Pizza (1988)

This movie is the best coming-of-age film about two sisters and their best friend who go through trials and tribulations of life while working at Mystic Pizza. I remember the first time I watched it. I immediately fell in love with this film because the message conveys the idea that, despite the hardships and rough patches we go through, there will always be people there to love and support you unconditionally. Plus, the movie features the talented Julia Roberts along with Matt Damon as a baby. Grab your bestie and snacks and enjoy this heartwarming and feel-good movie.

Heathers (1988)

This movie is the epitome of perfection and it’s all about discovering your true colors. It revolves around four popular and wealthy teenage girls involved in a high school clique. The three girls, Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, and Heather McNamara, along with Veronica Sawyer are all loathed and feared by most of the school. After a cruel joke is played on a helpless and unpopular classmate, Veronica questions if being mainstream is worth it. She rides along with partner-in-crime Jason Dean (J.D.) who further challenges her actions and beliefs. This movie is full of totally tubular 80s phrases along with hints of comedy and action — the perfect combo to watch with your BFF.

Pretty Woman (1990)

If you pass on watching this one, it is quite possibly the biggest mistake. Big. HUGE. There are not enough words to describe how exceptional this movie is. Plus, it features the world’s greatest acting duo- Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. I had to throw a rom-com into this list and this is the one movie that never fails to put viewers in a great mood. Roberts plays a down-on-her-luck Hollywood hustler who finds her last bit of luck by running into a wealthy businessman, Gere, who hires her to be his escort for an entire week. Over this period of time, they develop a relationship that is full of sensitivity and feel-good humor. Take a seat on the couch and settle in because this is definitely not a movie you want to miss out on.

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997)

First off, I have to say that there are no other actors that could portray childhood best friends better than Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino. This dynamic duo portrays two 28-year-olds women who have not achieved much success in life. They conjure up a plan to fake their last ten years and reinvent themselves in order to impress their former classmates. This movie is full of classic one-liners and funky fashion statements that any group of best friends would love to watch together. From prom, to living together in an apartment, to roadtrips singing along to the Footloose soundtrack, this comedy is perfect!

Bridesmaids (2011)

Quite possibly one of the best comedy movies I have ever seen, this movie gives us an all-star cast of ridiculously hilarious women. The movie centers around Annie Walker, played by Kristen Wiig, who gets knocked down multiple times due to her failing bakery, getting dumped by her boyfriend, and sharing an apartment with obnoxious English roommates. Her best friend Lillian, played by Maya Rudolph, is the most ecstatic she has ever been with the recent news of her engagement. Wiig’s character is the automatic choice to become the maid of honor, but feels she is being replaced by Helen, the rich, beautiful wife of the groom’s boss. If you are in the mood for uncontrollable laughter and watching a best friend dynamic play out, then this movie is perfect for you and your best friend.

This is the ultimate movie playlist. All movies deliver sensitivity and amusement while letting you bond with your BFF. Even though I may be biased, as these movies are some of my favorites, they truly are all masterpieces and they are exquisitely made. Girls night out just became girls night in, thanks to this movie lineup!
