The Super Bowl is a great time to get together with friends and cheer on your team. It is also a great time to prepare and eat some amazing tailgate food in the comfort of your own home or dorm room. Here are some recipes to make your Superbowl party the best on the block.
Snack stadium
Using tinfoil, divide a large metal pan into seven-eight rectangular sections depending on how many kinds of dip you want to use. Then add one type of dip to each section. If any of these dips need to be heated prior to serving, use a separate dish to warm them and wait just before serving to add them to the tray with your cold dips. This tray should resemble a football field, so feel free to decorate it with a toy field goal post and your team's insignia at the 50 Yard Line. The final step for this appetizer is to add in the fan stands, or in this case the chips and anything else your guests may need to dip to their heart's content. This can be done by placing the tray onto a large baking sheet and spreading the chips, veggies, and crackers out around the tray. Then all that's left to do is to charge the field.
Wings
No tailgate or Super Bowl party is ever complete without wings, but if you are short on time or oven space you may think that these are out of the question. Wings are easy to fake though, and can be substituted with chicken tenders. Frozen breaded chicken tenders can often be cooked using a microwave or toaster oven, making them dorm friendly. Once all the tenders are cooked, simply toss and coat them in a bowl with your favorite sauce whether it be honey mustard, Buffalo, or Aso sauce. For some added fun when plating, arrange the pieces in the shape of a jersey, helmet, or your favorite player's number.
Pigs in Blankets
Pigs in Blankets are super simple to make and can be made fun and festive. Simply pick up a tube of crescent rolls and a pack of miniature hot dogs from the grocery store. Wrap the miniature hot dogs with the crescent rolls and cook according to the directions on the package. Once cooked, you have the option to use mustard to either decorate each one as a football or to arrange them on a tray in the shape of a football and use mustard to draw on the laces.
Supreme Nachos
There is a reason sports bars are so popular, and that is because there is nothing better than eating junk food while watching pro-athletes exercise. One item that is a staple at sports bars and Super Bowl parties is a plate of nachos, so how do you make them for a bunch of people at once? Take a baking sheet and cover it with tortilla chips. Then cover the chips with cheese and stick it in the oven on broil. If you choose to add chili, cover the chips with it before the cheese. Watch carefully and remove the nachos from the oven once the cheese starts to bubble. Once out of the oven, spread guacamole and salsa over the top and top with jalapenos, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and serve hot.
Desserts
Who says you can't have dessert first? Life is short, eat that brownie and have a second cupcake too. Desserts can be made festive very easily. Use food coloring to make cupcakes that show off your teams colors. Or use frosting to make brownies into footballs. Whatever your favorite dessert may be, dress it up with some team spirit and your friends are sure to love it.
This Super Bowl, enjoy the time with your friends, and do so responsibly. Above all, remember that while the game may feel bigger, it is only a game. So eat, be merry, and enjoy those around you and the amazing food you are sharing. Whether they be new favorites or old ones.
