2018 is finally here! A new year is a great time to make positive changes in your life in order to meet your goals. Does this mean swapping pumpkin pie for dumbbells or not being late to work? Why, yes! Get rid of the post-holiday blues and turn that procrastination into motivation!

Here are 5 small habits that will create big changes!

1. Catch up with friends

I always have so much more fun when I bring a friend along to Zumba class, and I love just grabbing a cup of coffee with a friend or even going window shopping with a friend. Taking the time to frequently catch up with friends will help you release all the stress caused by your intimidating to-do list. When you surround yourself with people who empower you and push you to accomplish your goals, your squad becomes an additional motivator!

2. Unfollow, Log off, and Detox

Theodore Roosevelt once said that “comparison is the thief of joy." When we go on Instagram or other social media platforms, it is so easy to compare ourselves to others, whether it be friends or celebrities. Either way, it is not healthy and it’s time to unplug and take some time to appreciate the things in your own life.

3. Be More Active

Ah, working out more and losing weight is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, but it will most likely be over with in February. Lay out your gym clothes and your gym bag the night before. This will motivate you to get up and get going right away. Mix up your workout by trying out new machines or going to fun workout classes, such as hip hop or barre. This will force you to avoid the “I’ll go tomorrow" attitude, keeping you on track to reach your fitness goals.

4. Feed Your Mind and Soul

Not only is it important to work out and eat healthy, but it is essential to work on the mind and heart! Think of activities that make YOU happy! Write them down and plan to do at least one of those activities every week. I love to go on walks outside because I can focus and reflect on everything, and it gets me ready to conquer the next task.

5. Clean Your Workspace

Clutter, clutter, clutter. It’s starting to clutter my head! Clean your workspace so that you can focus on the job that is right in front of you without any distractions. A clean workspace is a clean mind!

Lastly, my number one way to get back into the swing of things this year is to find what makes you happy. This year is going to be YOUR year. It is your year to accomplish your dreams, leave the past in the past, and put the best version of yourself into the world starting today.
