It is definitely difficult to find motivation to get up for early morning classes, especially if you are more of a night-owl than an early-bird. When I was in high school, I got up every day at 6:30am and, for the most part, my mornings went pretty smoothly. However, now that I’m in college, I find it hard for me to get up before 8:00am. Recently, I have really tried to push myself to become a morning person because I really think that it is the beginning of a healthier lifestyle, or at least a more productive day. I have picked up a few tricks that make it easier to embrace the early mornings.

First off, I really try hard to not hit the snooze button because I know that when I hit snooze, I’m not getting any actual sleep anyway; I am really just delaying the inevitable. If you get up every single day at the same time, it becomes a habit and it’ll eventually get easier to get up when you have to. I’ve recently been getting up at the same time every day, and sometimes I even get up before my alarm now. I personally like to wake up about two hours before I have to be anywhere so I can take my time to get ready.

After I wake up, I immediately do my morning routine. Sticking to a routine definitely helps my mornings go by easier and more quickly. I always start by washing my face and brushing my teeth. For breakfast, I always start by drinking some water to wake my body up and give it a nice cleanse. Then, since I always try to be a little healthier in the morning, I usually go for oatmeal or yogurt with some fruit. Then, obviously, I have to have a cup of coffee.

After I eat, I always feel more alive, so that’s when I open up my laptop. I read and answer any emails I may have received the night before, and then I get my backpack ready for class. Also, I usually have enough time to finish up any work I still might have to do, and then I run to the library to print anything out that I may need. Another thing I really like to do is to arrive at least 10 minutes early to class because I get anxious about being late. I hate being late, and being early definitely gives a better impression.

Mornings can definitely be a struggle, especially Monday mornings. If you stick to a routine that suits you, then I can guarantee that your mornings will be less stressful and more productive.
