I know first hand that it is easy to be discouraged or lose motivation when starting something new. There have been many times when I had a dream to do something and then simply let distractions or excuses get in the way after a week.
I recently decided that I wanted to start learning how to play the guitar. At first, I would get frustrated that I could not play very well when I tried it for the first few times. When I look back at this, I now realize how ridiculous I was! How can we expect to achieve something right away? We have to be honest with ourselves; good things really do take time and patience.
Some of the best ways to stay motivated are a lot easier than we think. Find a friend that can help you be accountable, and fill them in on your goal and your plan. If you make a plan that works for you and has reasonable and achievable starting points to strive for, you will set yourself up for success.
The next part of the equation, which is crucial, is that you must train yourself to develop the drive to succeed. If you really want something, you can make it happen. When I feel discouraged, I think of other ordinary people who pushed through many obstacles simply because they believed that they could succeed.
Other tactics that help me include watching motivational videos on YouTube and making inspiration boards about the goals I am trying to achieve. Having a physical reminder helps me stay on track while keeping me motivated.
In conclusion, it is important to believe in yourself. If you hold your head high, push forward, and try your hardest, you can (and will) accomplish anything that you set your mind to.
