Shopping around for a law school? We spoke with recent Brooklyn Law School graduate Nicole Greene to get an insider's perspective on what it's like to attend the self-described "vibrant intellectual community" located in scenic Brooklyn Heights, New York.
Noodle: What schools did you apply to? I applied to American University, George Washington University, University of Florida, Fordham and New York Law.
N: Why Brooklyn Law?_ I wanted to be in a big city and Fordham wouldn't give me enough money.
N: What do you think is best when applying to law schools: straight from college, or working first?_ I think it depends. It's great to be 26 and an attorney. I feel like I have a lot of time to develop my career before starting a family. However, if I had taken a couple years off, maybe I would have been more focused and gotten better grades!
N: Toughest part about applying?_ The LSAT seems like no big deal after taking the bar... but I remember thinking it was the most awful test in the entire world.
N: Best first-year class? _It definitely depends on the professor. My favorite first-year class was Property with Professor Serkin; it led me to take related classes like family law, trusts and estates, and tax, which led me to practice in the areas of matrimonial law, estate planning and estate litigation.
N: Best place to take a break when studying?_ There really isn't a good place. The lounge at BLS is okay, but not very warm or inviting. O'Keefe's is a standard bar across the street for drinks at the end of the day. The courtyard is nice for maybe 3 weeks out of the school year. I hear a Shake Shack is being built across the street.
N: One thing you wish you knew before you started law school? _I wish I had known how few jobs would be available for new attorneys upon graduation.
N: On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate BLS? 5
