College students often look for advice and guidance from those who are older and more experienced. This is not bad, but sometimes the students sitting in the same classroom may have the best advice to give. It can be strange taking advice from people the same age as you, but they tend to be the most relatable. All we need to do is open our ears!

My professor recently brought in a panel of students to run the class for a day. At first I was hesitant and I thought it would be a waste of time, but I ended up walking out of the classroom with more knowledge than I ever could have imagined. The students spent the whole class talking about the internships they had recently completed. They talked about a typical day, what to expect, and what they wished they had known before they started. It was amazing to hear all about what these students had done, because I will have to complete my own internship soon.

This class period really opened my eyes. I now realize that almost all of the students around me have insight I can learn from, and I have things I can share with them as well. Since we are all around the same age, it’s nice to realize that there are people in the same boat as me, going through similar experiences. No two college experiences are the same, so if you ever have something you want to know more about, you will most likely be able to find a peer who would love to help! It can be intimidating, but if we just reach out to those around us, I’m sure we could learn all sorts of things!
