In this season of love, it is time to focus on what society often forgets: loving yourself, or self-love.
I define self-love as the condition in which you are actively working towards acceptance and the understanding of yourself through the appreciation of your body, spirit, and self. Self-love is calming and carefree because you are putting your passions and hobbies into action while moving away from any negative thoughts and distractions.
One of the most important pieces of advice that I have received in both my personal and professional life is to always love yourself. Self-love rejuvenates you and it allows you to grow as an individual because it pushes you to understand who you are as a person and it allows you to reorganize your goals, hopes, and dreams. It strengthens your mind, body, and soul, ultimately helping you focus on yourself and your needs before anybody else.
Self-love should be a priority for everyone because it greatly impacts our attitude, as well as our interactions with other people. Self-love is the process of learning to cherish who you are so you can show others your incredible independence and confidence. Remember, you don’t need permission to pamper yourself. With a little self-love each day, you can develop a more positive mindset that will be seen in the way you go about your day to day life. You’ll feel more inspired, active, and happy.
There are many types of self-love actions, which you may unknowingly be pursuing on a daily basis. Here are some of the ways I give love to myself:
Going for a walk or run by myself
Reading a book
Listening to music
Cooking (and being mindful of what I put into my body)
Journaling my thoughts and releasing my emotions and frustrations
Setting up a DIY spa night at home, complete with face masks, warm baths, and manis and pedis
Wearing clothes that make me feel confident
Learning about my hobbies and seeking new ones
Cherishing and taking care of who I am gives me the confidence to work toward my professional and personal goals, whether it be advancing in my career, pursuing more education, or establishing stronger relationships with those around me. What are some of the ways that you show self-love?
