All generations have their stereotypes, but it seems like the millennial stereotype gets the most abuse. While there are tons of echo boomers hustling, working and defying that stereotype, there’s many who add fuel to the so called fire. Let’s talk about those labels.

Millennials are entitled: This is probably the most complained about stereotype. A giant bone of contention for us. I remember coming across an article that was titled ‘Everyone and their mother has a trophy just for showing up’ or a derivative of that.

Millennials are lazy: Ok, what teenager or even adult complains about all the work they have to do? If this pertains to gen y’s lack of enthusiasm to get a job, see the next myth.

Millennials want ‘success handed to them on a plate: I haven’t encountered someone who doesn’t want ‘success handed to them on a plate.’ Maybe millennials just talk about it more? Add this to the fact that the ‘boomerangs’ are spoiled.

Millennials are narcissistic: ‘The selfie generation’. This unfortunate nickname stemmed from our apparent love of taking selfies, needing constant personal compliments and the amount of time we spend fixing ourselves in the mirror.

Millennials are the worst: Now I heard this myth from a totally random person I passed in the airport. Are we really that bad? If all I’ve heard about the ‘digital generation’ is true, then sadly I’d have to agree (but most of what I’ve heard is rumor!)

Millennials don’t want to be called millennials: According to Lindsay Pollack’s article ‘What is a Millennial? Everything you wanted to know but were too afraid to ask’ 40% of the young people surveyed didn’t want to be associated with the term millennial. I think it’s because of all the negative connotations applied to the term.

Did all of that get you kinda down? Watch this video to perk up.
