AM:  How are you defying the millennial stereotype?

TAM: I contribute to charities that I am passionate about; I believe in seeing the good in other people. I work hard – I own two businesses and work very hard at them. I sometimes work 16-18 hour days to make sure that everything is running smoothly. I don’t own a house yet, but I do own two cars. A house will follow soon enough. 🙂

AM: Why do you think the stereotype is so rampant?

TAM: I think it’s rampant because my generation does things differently, and we live in a different world. You can’t pay for college working part time during the summer, or even full time! You need student loans or help from you parents. Gone are the days of affordable homes and apartments- it’s expensive. The economy isn’t the same as it was when our parents or grandparents were buying homes. Our generation has different priorities. For example, we like to travel and we aren’t having kids quite as young. That is okay- it’s just different. People don’t like different.

AM:  What can other young people do to defy this misnomer?

TAM: Keep up the good work. Do what you like to do, work hard, and don’t be afraid to take your time. Ignore the older generations. We have to do things differently.

AM: What do you want the public to know about millennials?

TAM: I want them to know that we are smart and hardworking. Statistically, we have the most education out of any previous generation. If anyone can fix our world, it’s us.
