We always say time goes by very fast, but I don’t think we realize exactly how fast until the Presidential elections arrive.
It feels like we voted in the 2016 election just a couple of months ago, but in reality we are several years in, with not much longer to go until we have to do it once again.
Although we still have plenty of time before the 2020 election, it’s good to start looking at who has decided to run because before we know it, election day will be here and we will be voting for our future.
Elizabeth Warren
Warren is a current Senator for the state of Massachusetts. Warren, a Democrat, is originally from Oklahoma and believes in putting an end to corruption in Washington and building the middle class back up.
Julian Castro
Castro was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Obama administration. He is a Democrat from Texas and wants equality for people in our country. He promises to help college students with managing debts, elderly people with financial matters, and people of color with feeling safe.
John Delaney
John Delaney is a politician and businessman from New Jersey. He was elected into Congress in 2012, and he plans to run as a Democrat in the 2020 election. Delaney wants to end gerrymandering (the manipulation of boundaries in an electoral constituency), create financial reform, and pass gun-safety legislation.
Tulsi Gabbard
Gabbard is an American Politician who has been a Congresswoman for the 2nd district of Hawaii since 2013. She is a democrat who plans to making healthcare more accessible, reform criminal justice, and help improve climate change.
Kirsten Gillibrand
Gillibrand has been a Democratic Senator for the state of New York since 2009. As an American attorney and politician, she wants to work on bettering healthcare and public schools as well as tackle racism.
Kamala Harris
Harris is a Democrat from California and has served as a junior U.S. Senator there. She has been nicknamed the “female Barack Obama" and if elected, plans to make Medicare more accessible. Her other goals are yet to be announced.
Richard Ojeda
Ojeda is an American Politician and retired Army Major. He is also a member of the West Virginia Senate. As a Democrat, Ojeda’s goal is to make medicare available to everyone, end corruption in the government, and implement an anti-lobbyism and accountability platform.
So far there have been more Democrats ready to step up to the plate than Republicans, but it’s still early to conclude who will come up to base. One thing I believe we can all agree on is that the 2020 election will be a big one. Will this be the election that gives America its first woman in office?
