The LGBTQ+ Community has come a long way in the last few decades, but we still have goals to reach. For that reason, multiple organizations fighting for LGBTQ+ rights are accepting donations. This Pride Month, consider donating whatever you can and continue to do so even when at the end of June rainbow flags stop appearing on every product you buy.
Here is a list of organizations you should consider donating to:
National Center for Transgender Equality: The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) was founded in 2003 by transgender activists. They know there is a need for policy changes to achieve transgender equality. Their main goal is to provide transgender advocacy in Washington, DC.
Equality Federation: Equal Federation is a movement builder that believes LGBTQ+ people should have equal opportunities to thrive and provide for themselves in every community. They are a strategic partner to state-based organizations that help amplify the power of the LGBTQ+ movement.
National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network: The National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network (NQTTCN) is a healing justice organization that wants to transform mental health for queer and trans people of color. Their motivation is to create a world in which people, no matter who they are, have access to healing resources rooted in social justice and liberation in order to recover from trauma, violence, or systemic oppression.
The Trevor Project: The Trevor Project was founded in 1998. As a national organization, their main goal is to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ people under the age of 25.
The Okra Project: The Okra Project is a collective focused on addressing the global crisis that Black Trans people are facing. They bring home-cooked, healthy, and cultural specific meals by paying Black Trans chefs to go into Black Trans people’s homes. Keeping in mind the thousands of homeless Black Trans people, they have partnered with other organizations to set up specific places for deliveries.
There are plenty of organizations that need donations during Pride Month, but also the rest of the year. Funding them helps LGBTQ+ people get the mental and physical care they deserve while ensuring there are people fighting for their rights in the places where it matters the most. Without donations most of these organizations would not be able to reach their goals. If donating is not a possibility for you, make sure to share these resources (or any others you may find) on your social media.
