The Mueller Investigation is a story that has taken the media by storm! Robert Mueller was the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2001 to 2013. On May 17th, 2017, he was appointed to special counsel by Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on the Russian probe. This led to a number of individuals from the US, including Russian nationals, to be charged with identity fraud, falsifying statements, money laundering, and more. The primary discovery was that George Papadopoulos, who was President Donald Trump’s campaign aide, was found guilty of falsifying statements in order to protect the president from incrimination. This led to students across the country vocalizing their opinions about President Trump. I chose to ask some students on my own turf, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, what they think.

The first student response is from Toni Manigualt, a senior Crime and Justice Studies major and Black Studies minor. Toni responded to the Mueller investigation by saying, “I think Trump was bound to get caught up eventually. He’s been in multiple situations that have been impeachable. This is not surprising that this man [Mueller] was hired by his attorney general and now Trump is under investigation for his sketchy actions."

The next student response is from Sky Willis, a senior Marketing major and Management minor. She thinks, “Trump has always had something coming out in media since he won the presidency. I am genuinely not surprised at how things are turning out."

The last student response is from Meagan McIntosh, a senior English Communications major and Leadership and Civic Engagement minor. In regards to Papadopoulos, Meagan says, “I can understanding wanting to protect the person you work for."  She continues,“You’re risking a lot more than you realize and Trump clearly does not care about how anyone feels. He [Papadopoulos] basically ruined his own career in the process."

Clearly these students have strong feelings, and it would take a lot of convincing to even get close to changing their minds. It’s refreshing to know that our generation is passionate about the future of the United States.
