Yes, college is fun, but the main reason for college is to learn, and therefore you have to study. Studying in college is way different than studying in high school. In college, you are expected to read, and do any other assignments on your own based off of a syllabus given at the beginning of the semester. Whereas in high school teachers gave you assignments to complete and told you everyday what your homework is. Finding efficient studying habits is a must. By the end of this article, you will know my favorite studying do's and don'ts.

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to how they study, and it takes time to figure out what works best for you. Here are some of my tips for how to successfully study for your college classes. Most teachers will give a syllabus with all of the due dates listed. I immediately write all of them down in my calendar so I don't question due dates later on. I love organizing things, and I love color coding. Both of these things have been super beneficial when it comes to staying up to date on all of my assignments. Study somewhere that you can focus. For me, I can study in my room at my desk with music playing, but a lot of people prefer to get out of their room to study. Coffee shops are always a good place to study, if you don't get distracted easily. Finding a favorite study spot on campus is always fun to do. Mine was outside on the lawn when it is warm out.

Now, here are some things that you should NOT do. You will have essays in college. Sometimes you will have essays due for multiple classes on the same day. Never wait until the day before a paper is due to start writing it. Speaking from personal experience, this will not end well. Always plan ahead for any assignment and get it done early if possible. Also, do not study in your bed. I love my bed, but I am never successful when I am trying to get work done if I am in bed. Separating school and home is important, and you will always do better if you have two separate places for sleep and study. When you study in bed it just makes you sleepy.

I could go on and on about my studying habits and elaborate on specifics, but that would take all day. Hopefully these few tips will be a good place for you to start establishing good studying habits. Like I said earlier, it will take time to find the perfect way to study for you, but try out different things until you figure out what works best. Happy studying!
