Pete Buttigieg is by far the least known Democrat running for office in the 2020 Presidential Elections. Buttigieg is the mayor of South Bend, Indiana and currently polls at 0 percent among the Democrats running. However, a question he answered at an event recently may be helping him to gain popularity within social media.
Buttigieg is a Navy Veteran, Rhodes Scholar, and would be the youngest and first openly gay President in the U.S. But what is gaining him popularity are none of these qualities, but that he is open to court packing.
“I’ve not reached a considered position on the question of court packing. Although I don’t think we should be laughing at it because it some ways it’s no more a shattering of norms than what’s already been done to get the judiciary to where it is today," stated Buttigieg.
Buttigieg also mentioned some issues he is prepared to advocate for such as “getting money out of politics", redristricting, and getting rid of an electoral college.
ThinkProgress even went as far as to say Buttigieg is the only candidate serious about governing.
The question is: why does Buttigieg think he has what it takes to be President. His answer was simple.
“I not only have more years of government experience than the president of the United States, but I have more years of executive experience than the vice president of the United States, and more wartime experience than anybody who arrived in the office since George H.W. Bush," Buttigieg explained to the Washington Post.
Although Buttigieg seems like a great candidate, he is going to need a lot more popularity in order to truly make it into the race.
