Meditation is the practice of deep, mindful thinking, or focusing one’s mind on stillness or a mantra or spiritual reflection. Many people are drawn to the idea of meditation, but very few often participate in the practice. Life can be extremely fast and busy, but meditation can help teach you how to take time for yourself. It takes as little as five minutes a day, and you can even plan when you will do it. I find the best time for me is right after school or work, and I do this before I shift my mind to the rest of the day.
After you decide on a time to meditate, decide in advance on what you would like to meditate on, or which approach you feel most comfortable taking. Additionally, how would you like to meditate- with music, a mantra, or an online guided meditation? These are the things to think about before you start. These are just a few basic approaches to meditation; I hope you give it a try and explore your mind while at peace. Here are a few more tips that I personally feel has helped my experience with meditation.
Focus on positivity. For beginners, I highly recommend thinking or focusing on positive things. This is a simple meditation exercise that can have a huge effect on your mood right way.
Try essential oils. Lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint are my favorites to help me relax and stay focused.
Focus on breathing. If you are finding it hard to focus, pay attention to your breaths. Focusing on deep, long breaths, allowing the oxygen to fill up your whole body.
Read The Book of Awakening. This book, written by Mark Nepo, is a delightful book to read if you want to expand your knowledge on meditation.
Meditation is a practice that aims to achieve a better self and brain; it can lead to new discoveries about yourself, and I do hope you give it a try.
